Process Acupressure (PA) is a body/mind/soul
modality that works with the whole person to further health, well-being
and soul-centered development. It is based on the idea that
the body, mind and soul are fundamentally linked—and that the
state of one has an effect on the state of the others.
The Chinese mapped out energy pathways (meridians)
throughout the body around 3,000 years ago. Similarly, the ancient
Indians defined the energy centers (chakras) of the body.
Process Acupressure uses this ancient knowledge
combined with contemporary psychospiritual understanding, to promote
health and self-responsibility. Typically, a PA session takes from 1 to
1-1/2 hours. During this time you lie, fully clothed, on a
bodywork table while the practitioner applies gentle pressure to your
acupoints. Pressure on specific combinations of acupoints
helps open and balance energy pathways that have been restricted.
Process Acupressure also helps promote better
health and renewed energy by actively involving you in your own healing
and growth processes. It teaches you to become more aware of
your body and your “process”—that is,
your particular history, style and patterns of thinking, feeling,
behavior, health and illness. It teaches you how to respect
and follow this process as your own unique path to health and
growth. You will more readily recognize the subtle things you
do to foster, or suppress, the natural growth process. You can learn
new ways to help yourself and how to change those patterns that are not
working.
Process Acupressure can address many common
physical symptoms, including back problems, headaches, respiratory,
digestive and systemic problems, as well as allergies and healing from
injuries.
Through many years of research, over 100 specific
acupressure protocols were developed to provide therapy for all parts
of the body and many specific conditions. PA is especially
helpful with stress-related conditions, including post-traumatic
stress.
For a long time, bodywork and psychology offered
two very distinct approaches to the person. Recent advances
in psychology, medicine and bodywork are finally closing the gap
between the body, psyche and soul. Process Acupressure
bridges psychology and bodywork in a unique way.
Process Acupressure was developed by Aminah
Raheem, Ph.D., a transpersonal psychologist, Zero Balancing teacher and
author. Dr. Raheem combined the unique touch of Zero
Balancing and traditional acupressure with various psycho-spiritual
process skills, including principles from Arnold Mindell’s
work.
