Why Carol
About Carol Burke
Trained in both medicines
I spent many years in allopathic medicine, working in adult clinical care as a nurse practitioner. I saw what Western medicine does well, and where it leaves people still searching.
That search led me to a deeper study of health and illness through mind-body touch therapies with internationally known teachers. In January 2006 I opened my own practice as a licensed acupuncturist in Annapolis, and I've never looked back.
I studied for over 10 years in New York with Master Jeffrey Yuen, an internationally recognized Master of Classical Chinese Medicine and Daoist priest: advanced acupuncture, Chinese dietary therapy, medical aromatherapy, and healing with gems and stones. I've taught, too: I'm a former director of education at the Baltimore School of Massage and a former instructor to medical students in the Complementary Medicine Program at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
I'm licensed for human acupuncture in Maryland and Virginia and for animal acupuncture in Maryland, and I'm certified in Zero Balancing (Dr. Fritz Smith) and Process Acupressure (Dr. Aminah Raheem).
What that means for you: a practitioner who speaks both languages of health. I can read your bloodwork history and your pulse, and I'll never ask you to choose between good medicine and being truly heard.
I believe laughter is the best medicine, and that hugs and animals are healing. I live in Epping Forest with my artist husband, Damian, and our hound dog, O'Riley.
